Born and raised in Victoria BC, Matt Garvey’s family has always made eating together and sharing food a top priority. He carried this with him as he began his culinary career working in restaurants at age 16. By 19 he started at the Victoria Fairmont Empress before deciding to move to Vancouver to complete his Culinary Arts Diploma at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts. While there, he worked at restaurants including West, C, and the Pear Tree before eventually moving to Toronto. In Ontario, he continued refining his own style of food, working at Canoe, the Fairmont Royal York, and Friday Harbour Resort as well as eating his way through parts of Europe, South America, and Asia. Since moving back to Victoria he's transitioned to teaching as well as eating a plant based diet, the latter being something he never thought would be possible being a chef. He's since realized that not only is it possible, it's incredibly fun and tasty. Whether you're just starting to cook or a seasoned foodie (pun intended) there's always something new to learn and Matt hopes to share just how easy and delicious plant based eating can be.
