Chef Andrew Paumier’s culinary journey started in Toronto at the age of 16. Andrew knew from a very early age that he wanted to be a chef. This was confirmed when his parents told him he would become the 7th generation of chefs in the family. It is no wonder it felt like such a natural choice. His career has gradually moved him west and finds him in Victoria, which he has called home for the last 8 years. Andrew’s philosophy on food is simple ingredients treated simply. When we have the bounty of amazing local ingredients like we do here on the island it easy to remain inspired.
Andrew is currently President of the Island Chefs Collaborative. Our mission is simple; The Island Chefs Collaborative are a liked-minded community of chefs and food and beverage professionals with a common interest in regional food security, the preservation of farmland and the development of local food systems. Andrew wishes to see all of us continue to have access to world class ingredients right in our own back yard
Andrew is also Program Assistant for the Growing Chefs! Program which gets kids excited about good, healthy food. In our Classroom Gardening and Cooking Program, chef and community volunteers are paired with elementary school classrooms (grades 1-3 for the primary program, 4-6 for the intermediate) to give students hands-on experience growing and cooking their own food.
Above all of this Andrew is the proud father of 2 amazing kids who fill his life with joy and lots of opportunity to pass on the knowledge he has gain throughout his career. Kids are our future and we need to encourage them to share food with friends and family whenever possible as these are the building blocks of a strong and balanced community.
