Your guide to Iron COOKWARE Care

Choosing a Cast Iron or Carbon Steel pan is an important decision, especially if you’re giving it to someone.

Not only is it better for the environment, because you will never need to replace it, but it could end up being the most versatile pan you own.

The videos below will help you understand the basics of maintaining an iron pan.

How to choose a pan? Watch this detailed video on how to choose the right non, non-stick pan.

Need some deeper understanding of why it’s so important to rid your kitchen of coated cookware? I dive deep in this video.

But what about that one trusty non stick pan for eggs? I can’t get rid of that!?! Sure you can.

What should I buy?

Choice #1 -  Field and Stargazer Cast Iron

Our top recommended brands of raw cast iron are Field Skillets and Stargazer Skillets.  Why? As I stated in my video above (How to Choose a Pan?) These brands have invested a huge amount of time developing a pan that mimics the pans of our grandparents. There was a time when all cookware was made by hand, by craftsmen who took pride in making a skillet as a functional piece of art. This is what you get from a Field and Stargazer Skillet.

Choice #2 - de Buyer Mineral B

For excellent non-stick results in a traditional fry pan shape, we find that de Buyer Mineral B works very well. They take a bit more time to season, but once ready they are as non-stick as anything else.

Choice #3 -  Staub Enameled Cast Iron

Using enamled iron cookware is not quite the same as raw but it is easy to clean and easy to look after. You can season the enameled surface but not to the same extent as raw. If you are looking for a good general-purpose pan then Staub may be the best choice for you.
