Having a blender or juicer is a great way to make healthy drinks that nourish and energize your body. Both methods are capable of combining all the flavours and nutrients, found within fruits and vegetables, to create a deliciously refreshing drink. That’s where their similarities end. Blenders and juicers are two very different appliances and, depending on what your goal is, you might enjoy one more than the other. We’ve taken a closer look at each appliance to help you decide which one is better for you.
Benefits of Juicing
Juicers separate the fibers from your fruits and vegetables, which results in a very nutrient-dense drink. It makes it easier for your body to absorb all the nutrients, without putting your digestive system to much work. Juicers also make all of the nutrients trapped inside fibers accessible, which helps assimilate them into your body within minutes, whereas the fibers in a smoothie take hours to break down.
Juicers extract all of the nutrients from your fruits and vegetables, concentrating them into a nutrient-dense energy drink. A juicer will do this in one of two ways: through a centrifugal process or the cold press (slow/masticating) method. A centrifugal juicer uses a fast-spinning blade to separate juice against a fine mesh filter via centrifugal force. The downside of centrifugal juicers is that the fast-spinning blades will generate enough heat to destroy some of the essential nutrients in your fruits and vegetables. Cold press juicers extract juice by using an auger to slowly crush and press your fruits and vegetables through a fine mesh, giving you a higher juice yield and retaining more of the nutrients.

Benefits of Blending
Blending promotes a higher fiber intake, which benefits your body by: reducing your overall hunger throughout the day; decreasing the rate of nutrient absorption, which allows your body to better assimilate nutrients and gives you energy for a longer period of time; controlling high blood sugar levels; and regulating your digestive system. Blenders are also multi-purpose tools, which you can use to make soups, dips, nut butters, and much more.
Blenders utilize a combination of high-power, high-speed, and a sharp blade to break apart your foods into very fine particles, making it easier to consume a larger volume of food, such as fruits and vegetables, at a time. Unlike a juicer, everything you put into the blender remains in the blender. This means that all the fibers found in fruits and vegetables are retained in your smoothies, giving you a thicker end-product than a juicer.
Whether one is more beneficial than the other depends on whether you prefer a higher fiber intake or higher nutrient intake, whether you want a quick energy boost or energy throughout the day, and whether you prefer a specialized or multi-purpose appliance.
